Taurus New Moon: The Sacred Divine Feminine

The Taurus New Moon happens April 26th at 5:16 am at 6 degrees Taurus 27 minutes.

Here’s the chart: TaurusNewMoon2017.

As the first Earth sign of the zodiac, Taurus represents the physical resources we need to survive.  Among the basic necessities are food, clothing and shelter.  However, in our modern era we need more.  We need money.  Hopefully, we are increasingly realizing that we also need one another.  As numerous global issues threaten our very survival, perhaps more than ever before, we need to come together and work together if we’re to succeed in resolving the crises and conflicts that are pushing life on this planet closer and closer to extinction.

In ancient times, cattle commonly reflected wealth and the intrinsically sustainable and renewable character of ‘natural resources.’  They were often traded and bartered in exchange for goods and services.  Even today, the bull is recognized as the mascot of Wall Street, a universal symbol of financial wealth.

Taurus is ruled by Venus.  She also rules another sign, Libra, which is associated with the diversity of relationships we have with others.  Libra’s evolutionary task is learning to be in relationships with others as an equal.  Symbolized by the Scales, Libra is also the sign of extremes that must learn balance in all things.  So often, Libra experiences extremes of imbalance, particularly in relationships, especially when there’s unequal resources among partners.

Libra lessons have been front and center since late last year when Jupiter entered the sign for a year.  Squaring Pluto in Capricorn and opposing Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Libra is currently part of a powerful Cardinal T-Square, a planetary configuration that will continue through August this year.

This T-Square is reflecting ongoing power struggles between the ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’ and the extreme levels of wealth disparity and income inequality that have been the cause and focus of growing social unrest.  It’s also manifesting through increasing revolutionary forces for change, that are demanding greater equality, all across our planet.

Thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets in Caracas on Wednesday, protesting President Nicolás Maduro. His opponents billed their march as “the mother of all protests.” At least two more people reportedly have died, taking the death toll to 23 since anti-government protests erupted across Venezuela at the beginning of April.

The extreme levels of greed of powerful special interests, be they wealthy individuals or corporate entities, who have bought access to governments and their leaders the world over, have contributed to the extreme levels of poverty in many countries allowing the rich to get richer as the poor get poorer.

Currently, Venus occupies the final degree of the zodiac, 29 degrees Pisces, in the New Moon chart.  This final degree represents a natural completion or culmination.  This final degree also symbolizes the ultimate spiritual evolution of mankind.  It represents a reunion with the Divine Creative Source.

Venus is also completing the post-shadow period of her bi-annual retrograde that occurred between March 4th and April 15th.  This post-shadow period will end on May 18th.  Venus retrograde is always about reviewing and reflecting upon issues associated with love and money, or resources (Taurus) and relationships (Libra).  What have we learned?  And what will we do differently as a result?

Venus is also still within orb of a conjunction (0 degrees) with Chiron in Pisces.  Chiron is always about our wounds and how to heal them.  Currently moving through Pisces (April 20, 2010 to February 18, 2019), Chiron reflects an opportunity to heal deep spiritual and psychological wounds that have left us feeling powerless and victimized.  Venus also remains in a first quarter square (90 degrees) aspect to Saturn in Sagittarius.  Interestingly, both Sagittarius and Pisces represent our beliefs.  Sagittarius rules our conscious beliefs.  Pisces however represents our deepest levels of unconscious beliefs.

First quarter square aspects carry the energy of ‘crises in action.’  The crisis typically manifests as a dilemma relative to the need to make important choices in order to move forward but not knowing what choice to make.  Which choice is the right choice or the best choice?

Lynne co-founded the Pachamama Alliance, a global community that helps people learn, connect, engage, travel and cherish life for the purpose of creating a sustainable future that works for all. With roots deep in the Amazon, they integrate indigenous wisdom with modern knowledge to support personal and collective transformation that can bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just human presence on this planet.

Making wise choices requires knowledge and insight.  Often, to arrive at the right answer we need to begin by asking the right question.  One of the most important questions Venus seems to be asking now is, “WHAT IS OUR RELATIONSHIP TO MONEY?”

Perhaps it’s a good time to read or re-read Lynne Twists, “The Soul of Money.”

In it she encourages us to think differently about resources, especially money.  She points out a near universal belief, albeit often unconscious, carried by almost everyone; a belief in ‘scarcity’ or the belief that there’s never enough.  This belief creates a quality of consciousness that co-creates realities that literally reinforce scarcity.

She writes about how most people believe there’s never enough time, or that they never get enough sleep, or sex, or love or recognition.

Perhaps most importantly, she also points out that most people believe they never have enough money.

Beliefs underpin and inform the very nature of our consciousness, both individually and collectively.  Considering that CONSCIOUSNESS CREATES REALITY, it’s crucial that we continuously ask ourselves and each other, “What do we really believe?”  And, “Are these beliefs actually rooted in facts and reality and truth?”

The sign Saturn occupies as it travels through the heavens always focuses human consciousness on the evolutionary lessons or issues associated with that sign.  Moving through Sagittarius (December 21, 2014 to December 18, 2017), Saturn has been focusing our collective attention on expanding our understanding of the truth.

Sagittarius teaches that truth is RELATIVE and exists at different levels.  There’s personal truths (what’s true for you may not be true for me) and also universal truths (some things are true for everyone regardless of individual differences).

Sagittarius is the sign associated with what we believe to be true so it stands to reason that it also rules our beliefs and belief systems.  Belief systems include the world’s faith traditions like Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, Christianity or Hinduism.  Additionally however, each of us carries a myriad of various individual beliefs that are based upon our personal experiences, both in this current lifetime as well as previous lifetimes.

With Venus currently in Pisces (unconscious beliefs), conjunct Chiron in Pisces (wounds and healing), square retrograde Saturn in Sagittarius (review of conscious beliefs), culminating a rare retrograde period of reflection upon resources and relationships (or what we really need and what we really value), we have an opportunity to realize, with much greater clarity and conscious awareness, what we do in fact believe, and perhaps more importantly, how those very beliefs have been co-creating our realities.  We cannot change something unless and until we are aware that it exists!

Of course, distorted beliefs will create distorted realities.  Distorted truths and facts and beliefs are at the root of some of the most intractable geo-political conflicts now raging across our planet, from ‘trickle-down economics’ theory, to climate change to terrorism, from the Middle East, to Africa to the United States.

Venus in Pisces, conjunct Chiron and square Saturn reflects an extraordinary choice point that offers us the chance to heal our relationships with one another and our relationship with the planet.  To EFFECTIVELY make the right choice however, requires that we also fully and consciously understand the role our beliefs have and will play in maintaining or resolving the crises we face.  To make the right choice, we must understand the facts of the situations, what’s real and true, and what distortions we’ve previously bought into, both consciously and unconsciously.

Especially unconsciously…

Here are some relevant facts worthy of consideration:

  • Earth’s 2016 surface temperatures were the warmest since modern record-keeping began in 1880, according to independent analyses by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  The 2016 temperatures continue a long-term warming trend.  Most of the warming occurred in the past 35 years, with 16 of the 17 warmest years on record occurring since 2001.
  • In 1987 we surpassed the’ One Earth Line’ as we began using more resources than the Earth can regenerate.  In other words, we began living off an ‘ecological credit card.’  That same year, ecological economists began predicting that a huge financial crisis would occur in about 20 years as a reflection of the ecological crisis.  The ‘Great Recession’ began on Wall Street with the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008.  Currently we are using 50% more resources than the Earth can regenerate.
  • By October last year, 220 ‘significant’ pipeline spills had occurred during 2016 in the United States alone.  Since 2006, a staggering 3,032 spills have been reported.  The costs of these leaks since 2006 has amounted to $4.7 billion.  Pipeline construction businesses continue to consistently argue that pipelines are environmentally safe.
  • The Guardian news service reported that at least 185 environmental activists were killed in 2015, with anti-mining activities being the most deadly with 42 deaths related to protests, the highest annual death toll on record and close to a 60% increase over the previous year, according to a UK-based watchdog.  Lethal attacks occurred across 16 countries.  Brazil was worst hit with 50 deaths, many of them killings of campaigners who were trying to combat illegal logging in the Amazon.  The Philippines was second with 33.  Colombia had 26 fatal attacks; Peru, 12; Nicaragua, 12; and Democratic Republic of Congo had 11.

Taurus is THE quintessentially feminine sign symbolizing pure YIN or feminine receptive energy.  Venus, the planet that rules Taurus, also rules resources as well as our planet Earth.

The etymology or linguistic root of both the words, ecology and economy, is ECO, which means house or household and the associated family it sustains.

Astrologically, both the economy and ecology are ruled by the planet Venus, the planet that rules women and all things feminine.  What beliefs do we hold, consciously and unconsciously, individually and collectively, about the value and worth of the feminine?  Do we believe in the POWER of the DIVINE FEMININE that nurtures and sustains all life?

Venus will be quite busy over the coming weeks as she returns to Aries on April 28th and begins to move through the powerful Cardinal T-Square over the coming month.

She will oppose Jupiter in Libra on May 19th.  Then she’ll square Pluto in Capricorn on May 25th.  And finally she’ll align precisely with Uranus in Aries on June 3rd.  As Venus re-ignites the change energy of the T-Square she’ll no doubt further shake things up to wake us up, particularly in matters associated with resources and relationships.

Notably, this Taurus New Moon chart contains another exciting conjunction or precise alignment between two more planets.  Uranus and retrograde Mercury are at 25 and 26 degrees Aries, respectively.  Just before Mercury began it’s current retrograde period, which began at 5 degrees Taurus on April 9th, it conjoined Uranus in Aries on March 26th.  Mercury will precisely conjoin Uranus two more times, just before and shortly after it stations direct resuming forward motion on May 3rd.  These two connections will occur on April 28th and May 10th.

This conjunction is exciting and meaningful for several reasons.  Mercury and Uranus are a natural planetary pair.  They both have to do with the mind and intellectual capacity.  Mercury rules the left brain and its logical, linear, deductive thought processes and patterns.  Uranus rules the collective mind of all of humanity or what is often referred to as ‘collective consciousness.’  It’s the planet associated with liberation and freedom that facilitates ongoing evolutionary progress.  Uranus is the planet of breakthroughs that sometimes requires break-ups and break-downs of old realities.  Uranus helps us to move forward, beyond outmoded and crystallized patterns and paradigms of the past that are preventing further growth and evolution.

Uranus also rules science and technology.  It’s connection with Mercury can manifest in surprising discoveries.  A timely example is a breakthrough in research by British scientists that have discovered a potential cause for Multiple Sclerosis.  Read more about this at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04/23/breakthrough-multiple-sclerosis-research-scientists-discover/ .

Hundreds of thousands of people joined the March for Science in cities around the globe.

Science was front and center on Saturday, April 22nd, as EARTH DAY was celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide who participated in a global March for Science!

Remember Uranus in Aries is currently part of the powerful Cardinal T-Square with Pluto in  Capricorn and Jupiter in Libra.  It’s fueling the revolutionary change forces that are manifesting through growing numbers of politically active people worldwide who are standing up and speaking out in support of FACTS, TRUTH AND REALITY!

Marchers sent a message to those in positions of power and authority; make different CHOICES based upon SCIENCE and enact policies that put people and planet ahead of profits.  One of my favorite March for Science signs said, “Make America THINK Again!”

Another important astrological pattern inherent in the Taurus New Moon chart involves Mars.

This planet of desire and instinctive actions just moved into Gemini where it will energize lots and LOTS of communication and information exchanges.  Upon entering Gemini, Mars squared the Nodes of the Moon which are currently moving through the signs of Pisces and Virgo.

The Nodes of the Moon are extremely important astrologically.  They reflect our evolutionary path from the past to the future.  The evolutionary trajectory of Pisces and Virgo symbolize the path of spiritual development that heals all wounds.  Spiritual evolution occurs naturally when we choose a transcendent spiritual path that’s based upon natural laws, or the laws self-evident in the natural world or nature.

Natural spiritual development follows a path of service, humility and self-improvement.  This path lets go of the man-made religious delusion of perfection and all of the suffering it requires through ‘atonement’ for ‘sins.’  Natural spiritual development unfolds and occurs as we embrace timeless, universal spiritual principles like compassion, forgiveness and unconditional love.

The Moon’s Nodes are always exactly opposite one another or 180 degrees apart on the zodiac wheel or circle.  They always occupy signs that are opposite one another.  Typically the Nodes take about eighteen months to move through each pair of signs.  The Nodes are peculiar in that they move backward through the zodiac.  When the Nodes reach 1 degree of the signs they occupy, as they are now, they’re basically finishing up their journey through those signs.

When a planet squares the Nodes, it’s equidistant to them both since the square angle or aspect is 90 degrees which is half of 180 degrees.  So Mars is currently 90 degrees from the South Node in Pisces and 90 degrees from the North Node in Virgo.

Planets square the Nodes always reflect a CHOICE POINT!  The same dilemma spoken of earlier in this post concerning the ‘crises’ associated with square aspects relative to knowing which choice is the right choice pertains here as well.  Thankfully, when the Nodes are involved, they naturally determine the “right choice” to be made.

In the case of Mars in Gemini square the Nodes in Virgo and Pisces, the right choice is symbolized by the South Node in Pisces.  This choice requires letting go of feelings of victimization.  It requires reaching for the highest level of manifestation possible within the sign of Pisces – timeless, universal and transcendent spiritual values and principles.  This right choice is to forgive yourself and others for past mistakes.  It means choosing compassion over judgment and unconditional love over fear, anger and hatred.

Coincidentally, these right choices reflect the same energy that Venus now commands as she stands at 29 degrees of Pisces representing the ultimate spiritual evolution and reunification with the Divine Creative Source, particularly the Divine or Sacred Feminine.

So in the weeks ahead, as the energy of this Taurus New Moon unfolds, ponder what you value most.  Ponder your own value.  Think deeply about how you relate to money and to our precious and sacred Mother Earth.  Consider what level you’re operating at relative to resources and essential needs.  Are you chasing money or meaning?  Do you appreciate the abundance you already have?

Contemplate how you might reach to a higher level of expression of your own worth and value in this world.

In The Soul of Money, Lynne Twist also reminds us that what we appreciate, appreciates.  So finally, ask yourself one more timely and crucially important question.

Blessed be…

The Gemini New Moon occurs on May 25th at 12:44 pm MST!
