Aries New Moon: Viva la Revolution!

AriesGlyph23The Aries New Moon occurs Thursday, April 7th, at 4:24 am PDT, at 18 degrees Aries 4 minutes.  Here’s the chart:  AriesNewMoon2016.  The Ram appropriately symbolizes Aries, which always acts instinctively upon it’s desires.  Of course, the Ram is also well known for butting heads with other males in the flock as it competes for the right to mate.  Ruled by Mars, the planet of war, Aries is the sign of pure male YANG energy; forceful and strong.

As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries always correlates to new beginnings.  So this sign is associated with Spring time (in the Northern hemisphere), the season that reflects a new beginning each year in the natural world when new life bursts forth as plants sprout new shoots and animals give birth.  The glyph for Aries represents new seedlings that have just pushed their way up through the soil, a remarkable instinctive act of natural strength.

As the first cardinal sign, Aries instinctively initiates action.  Aries overcomes it’s considerable fears through finding courage in action itself.  Most important however is the feedback Aries receives once it does act.  This always helps Aries discover something new about itself, the evolutionary purpose of this sign.  Through the instinctive process of continuously forging ahead into new experiences and unknown territory, Aries discovers and ultimately becomes who it is as a unique individual.

Accordingly, Aries needs LOTS of independence and freedom in order to initiate instinctive actions and pursue it’s desires.  When this freedom or independence is restricted, interfered with, or limited in any way, anger is always the natural reaction of Aries.  This explains why this sign is infamous for its anger and quick temper!

This New Moon in Aries carries a volatile instinctive energy pattern full of the impulse for revolutionary change!  This is because the Sun and Moon are conjunct Uranus, the planet associated with rebellion and revolution, which is also in Aries.  The Sun, Moon and Uranus are ALL square Pluto in Capricorn, which is gaining strength and influence as it slows down now ahead of its annual station retrograde on April 18th.  The ongoing square aspect (90 degree angle) between Uranus and Pluto is the most powerful and significant astrological pattern currently in the heavens.

Even though the powerful planetary connection between these two celestial heavyweights began over five years ago, and even though the seven EXACT squares between them have already occurred (June 2012 to March 2015), their connection and influence will continue through 2020.   This New Moon in Aries re-energizes this aspect between Uranus and Pluto in a BIG way!  Ruling revolution and evolution respectively, Uranus and Pluto are fueling major transformational changes worldwide.

1%vs99%Think of all the global changes that have occurred since Pluto first entered Capricorn in 2008 coinciding with the economic downturn that began on Wall Street and quickly spread around the globe.  The Arab Spring began in 2010 in Tunisia initiating widespread political upheaval throughout the Middle East and North Africa.  Then the Occupy Movement, begun in Manhattan in 2011, also spread quickly within months, occurring in cities in over 80 countries and across every continent except Anarctica.  The Occupy Movement brought the phrase “1% vs. the 99%” into our lexicon.

Syrianrefugee10Unrest in many Arab countries continues to this day as the world witnesses the largest human migration since World War II.  Europe is overwhelmed by the millions of refugees fleeing countries in the region devastated by wars between Sunni and Shiite Muslims and their proxies.  And of course, the world is still trying to recover from the 2008 global economic downtown that began here in the United States.  It seems the ‘Occupy Movement’ is currently experiencing a renaissance in the current U.S. Presidential election as issues of income inequality, corporate welfare, Wall Street corruption and rigged economic, political and justice systems have become fundamental cornerstones of campaign platforms – at least on the Democratic side of the contest.

Think too of the extraordinary cultural shifts in our own country evidenced by the nationwide legalization of gay marriage and decriminalization of marijuana in several states.  Lets not forget that America also elected our first African American President in 2008 whose landmark legislative achievement, the Affordable Care Act, has forever transformed the U.S. health care industry.

GodParticleExtraordinary change has also come to the world of science and religion!  Pope Francis has both inspired followers and upset leaders of the Catholic Church as he focuses his papacy on a return to the compassionate teachings of Jesus, rather than the traditional moralistic and highly judgmental doctrines so ingrained in the history and hierarchy of that centuries old religious institution.  Of course, the Islamic faith is also undergoing its own tremendous revolution as radical extremists continue to hijack and distort the peaceful teachings and traditions of that age old world religion.  As all this is happening, the scientific community discovered the “God Particle” in the Summer of 2012!

Quantum science continues to leap forward in its understanding of how life is created in our Universe.  Of particular interest to many is the emerging science of consciousness that has not only proven that consciousness creates reality, but is also proving the existence of the phenomenon of the ‘Soul!’  http://www.news.com.au/tablet/quantum-scientists-offer-proof-soul-exists/story-fnenjnc3-1226507686757

On a day to day basis, it can be difficult to grasp the magnitude of change currently unfolding on our planet.  Nevertheless, humanity continues to be in the midst of extraordinary levels of r-evolutionary change and transformation relative to old social, political, cultural, economic, religious and scientific structures and paradigms.

Expect this extraordinary pace of change to accelerate!

Uranus is associated with the archetype of liberation.  Uranus ALWAYS works to free us from whatever limitations are preventing further evolutionary growth on both individual and collective levels.  This is why Uranus is the planet of rebellion and revolution.  Often, in order to break free of the restrictions associated with the status quo, we must rebel against those forces that expect us to unquestioningly conform and comply to old established forms and structures and their rules and regulations.

It’s worth noting that when evolutionary changes are resisted for too long, Uranus acts to suddenly and unexpectedly shatter old realities and paradigms to enforce necessary change so that evolutionary growth can continue.  Resistance to necessary evolutionary change is in fact the primary causative factor for cataclysmic events.  In these cases, Uranus acts like an earthquake, transforming the landscape forever.

FukishimaDisaster2011Currently moving through Aries, Uranus has been shaking things up in order to wake us up since May 2010 when it first entered Aries.  In fact, the very day that Uranus re-entered Aries (it’s first retrograde returned it to Pisces for eight months from August 2010 to March 2011), the catastrophic 9.0 Tohoku earthquake occurred off the Northeast coast of Japan that triggered the explosions and subsequent meltdown at the Fukishima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant on March 11, 2011.  Clearly this was a cataclysmic event.  It actually happened within just two hours of Uranus returning to the sign of Aries!  Revolutionary Uranus will remain in Aries, the sign of new beginnings until 2019.

And speaking of power…

Astrologically, the issue of power is ruled by Pluto and its sign, Scorpio.  Pluto represents the Soul and the evolutionary process itself.  Accordingly, Pluto teaches the right uses of power.  Intrinsically, all human beings are endowed with the power of FREE WILL CHOICE which facilitates the very process of human evolution.  Unfortunately, in our modern reality, most of us have been conditioned to attribute power to mundane and material things, like status and wealth.  Interestingly, Pluto also rules sex and death, two other things we typically associate with power.  Of course these are the things most commonly used to manipulate and control or wield power over others.  These behaviors always reflect gross misuses of power.

With Pluto currently moving through Capricorn (2008 to 2025), and the Sun, Moon and Uranus in Aries now squaring Pluto in Capricorn in this New Moon chart, those in positions of authority who are abusing their power will increasingly be exposed as their lies and corrupt practices are revealed.  Capricorn is the sign associated with established social structures like governments and with those in positions of social authority like CEO’s, bankers, politicians and religious leaders.

Iceland’s Prime Minister Sigmundor David Gunnlaugsson and his wife Anna Sigorlaug Palsdottir

A perfect example of the power of the Sun square Pluto (April 6th) to expose corruption just happened this week with the release of over 11 million documents called the ‘Panama Papers.’  This cyber attack/hack is the largest leak in modern history.  It revealed the names of hundreds of individuals including twelve heads of state, government leaders and their wealthy associates, as well as mafia figures and drug and weapons traffickers who have stashed their wealth in tax havens with the aid of a Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonseca.  Among them are Ukraine’s President, Petro Poroshenko, and Iceland’s Prime Minister, Sigmundor David Gunnlaugsson, who resigned on Tuesday after more than 10,000 citizens in Iceland protested against he and his wife’s tax evasion.

For more information on this story go to http://www.democracynow.org/2016/4/5/panama_papers_world_leaders_rich_criminals

Remember I recently mentioned ‘International Transparent Forensic Accounting’ in a previous blog post? It appears this phenomenon is gaining ground as shocking (Uranus) levels of global corruption involving the rich and powerful are brought to light.  The Panama Papers classically illustrate how Pluto operates.  It first reveals and exposes that which is corrupt, decayed or dysfunctional.  Once revealed, those things will either be healed or come to an end.  Indeed this week has already brought an end to one career (Capricorn) for a leader who was abusing the power and authority of his position of prominence.  There will no doubt be more.

But now let’s also look at power from a more mundane point of view…

WindturbineThe world needs power in the form of energy sources in order to function.  Most of our cars still run on gasoline that fuels their engines, as does much of the machinery of industry.  Countless other common materials and profitable business products like fertilizers, plastics and pesticides that have become ubiquitous in modern life are manufactured from petroleum and its derivatives.  Oilspill

Fossil fuels have powered global economies for a century and a half.  However, petroleum is a deadly pollutant that is destroying ecosystems all across our planet.  Scientists unanimously agree that we’ve reached a tipping point.  For our evolution to continue, indeed for our very survival, we must now make different choices regarding energy sources.

Why haven’t we made this necessary change yet?  Why are we resisting the very change Mother Nature (who we are all ONE with) is quite dramatically insisting we must make in order to survive?  The answer is that the petroleum industry has vast wealth and holds enormous power over the very politicians whose responsibility it is to make energy policy changes.  Did I mention already that political systems are ‘rigged’ and corrupt?  The increasing frequency of extreme weather events reflect our stubborn resistance to necessary evolutionary changes relative to how we generate energy and utilize ‘power’ sources.  Unless and until we collectively make a different free will choice, we’ll no doubt continue to experience cataclysmic weather events and increasing outbreaks of infectious diseases resulting from environmental degradation and climate change.

Solarpanels3So we find ourselves at a choice point relative to how we power our lifestyles.  The crisis of climate change and its extreme weather events and rising sea levels are alerting us to the need to evolve away from our old destructive fossil fuel energy paradigm.  We must move quickly, globally, towards renewable energy sources that are clean, healthy and sustainable.  It’s time to r-evolutionize (Uranus and Pluto) our  relationship with energy and power!

Transforming our energy policies (Pluto) is not the only necessary evolutionary change we’re facing.  We obviously also need to change our politics.  Uranus rules politics because it’s  associated with how societies form groups within themselves.  The most common social grouping we all experience is our friends.  On a larger scale however, social groups are reflected through political parties.  Anyone notice the increasing chaos upending established political parties and systems the world over?  The current Presidential election process underway in the United States has completely shattered longstanding political ‘conventional wisdom’ as pundits, journalists and strategists find themselves utterly baffled at both Donald Trump’s and Bernie Sander’s success.  The ‘political revolution’ Bernie Sanders is calling for is indeed  happening!

So this New Moon powerfully re-ignites the ongoing r-evolutionary Uranus/Pluto connection.  But that’s not all it’s doing.  In addition, the Sun and Moon — and Uranus too are all inconjunct (150 degree angle) both the North Node and retrograde Jupiter in Virgo.  So what do these planetary connections mean?

Virgo is the sign of crises!  The New Moon’s connection to Jupiter and the North Node in Virgo reflects the need to make necessary changes and adjustments in order to effectively resolve and heal these crises.  Many things ruled by Virgo are currently capturing headlines.  For example, Virgo represents workers and workplaces so it’s not at all surprising that efforts to raise the minimum wage in the United States are finally gaining traction.  Just this week Governor Brown of California and Governor Cuomo of New York signed legislation raising their state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour.  Other cities like Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco have already enacted similar wage increase laws.

Virgo is also associated with health and healthcare systems.  Even as ‘Obama-care’ has dramatically reduced the number of uninsured Americans, varying statistics estimate over 30 million still have no health insurance.  So it’s also not surprising that a single payer healthcare system is once again front and center in the political discourse as a cornerstone of one of the Presidential candidate’s campaigns, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

zikavirusmosquitoVirgo also rules the environment and it’s health.  As Jupiter moves through this sign (August 2015 to September 2016) it’s reflecting the enormous scale of environmental degradation.  So once again, it should not be surprising that we’ve also been experiencing an expansion of infectious disease outbreaks like Ebola and the Zika virus.  Also dramatically increasing are drug-resistant strains of bacterial organisms and viruses like tuberculosis and MRSA.  This phenomenon will increasingly threaten the health of people and animals all over the planet.

So thank heavens Jupiter also rules man-made laws and legislative processes.  Jupiter’s transit through Virgo has coincided with a growing number of successful legal actions against big environmental polluters.  Lawsuits prohibiting the manufacture of toxic pesticides responsible for decimating crucial pollinator species like bees, butterflies and bats have recently prevailed against corporate behemoths like Bayer and Monsanto.  Last month legislation banning GMO labeling laws set to go into effect soon in Vermont failed in Congress.  Additionally, several states Attorneys General have joined with New York’s Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, who has brought suit against Exxon Mobil and others in the petroleum industry for fraud based upon decades of deceptive information provided to their shareholders about the impact of climate change due to fossil fuels.

HoneybeepollinatingcropsIt’s also likely that legal efforts against fracking, oil pipeline construction, offshore oil exploration and drilling will continue to grow and succeed all across this country.  Jeffrey Wolf Green, the founder of Evolutionary Astrology said over twenty years ago, “Environmentalism will become the new religion.”  As Jupiter in Virgo connects with the Sun and Moon in Aries now, we’ll continue to see changes and adjustments evidenced by environmental activism and legislation.  Not only will these efforts grow in strength and numbers but also in their success against corporate, financial and political interests that have a legacy of destroying our planet for profits.

The bottom line is that through the current influence of Virgo, healthier choices are gaining ground worldwide, among individuals, communities and nations!  What new choices are you making in support of your own personal health and well-being?  What changes are you pursuing to improve your work life or benefit your career path?

And finally, the Aries New Moon is also trine (120 degree angle) Saturn in Sagittarius.  This is a most auspicious planetary pairing!  In addition to Jupiter’s benevolent influence for legal actions against wrongdoing, the Sun’s very favorable connection to Saturn in Sagittarius (the sign ruled by Jupiter) is also bringing rewards and success to those whose prior efforts have worked for the common good or in pursuit of truth and justice.  Saturn’s association with responsibility, accountability and maturity, will be reflected in significant progress and achievement for those who have and continue to act ethically, with honesty and integrity (Sagittarius) for the benefit of all.

The influence of Sun in Aries trine Saturn in Sagittarius is reflected in recently enacted new rules regulating Advisors in the financial industry.  They must now put their client’s best interests ahead of their own profit goals.  Reports show that Financial Advisors have pocketed an average of $18 billion a year from the pension funds of those they advise.  This protection for worker’s hard-earned retirement savings is long overdue.  Another timely example of ethical responsibility is the decision by Paypal’s CEO, Dan Shulman, to cancel the company’s plan to expand their massive global operations center in Charlotte, North Carolina, after the state’s legislature passed a law repealing the city’s recent ban against discrimination for those in the LGBT community.

Pope Francis meets with the Mufti of Jerusalem Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, left, and Abdul Azeem Salhab, Head of the Waqef supreme court, near the Dome of the Rock Mosque

Sagittarius rules the search for truth so it represents the world’s religions and faith traditions.  Another historic example of maturity and integrity focused on the well-being of many has been evidenced time and again by Pope Francis as he has met with religious leaders from many faith traditions.  In the Spring of 2014 he met with Muslim, Jewish and Orthodox leaders in Jerusalem saying, “a visit to the Holy Land would not be complete without a meeting with the Muslim communities.”

Saturn is the planet of discipline and self-determination necessary to obtain our goals particularly those requiring serious, long-term effort and commitment.  What important goals are you working towards?  How are you evolving into a greater experience of maturity, personal responsibility and accountability?

Indeed MANY GOOD THINGS are happening throughout the world!  We just don’t hear much about them from corporate-owned mainstream media sources whose agenda depends upon fear and distortions of truth.  But then we all have the responsibility of making choices, daily, between fear and hope, despair and inspiration, truth or lies.

Long-term readers of my monthly New Moon posts, as well as those who listen to Heavenly Help, my free weekly podcast know that I’ve been saying for years (since about 2010!) that we are living in extraordinary times.  Ancient cultures the world over foresaw this time in human history as a time of tremendous evolutionary growth and change.  Their prophecies predicted both a time of great leaps forward in human consciousness and a time of cataclymic changes on planet Earth.

Consider the fact that every Soul alive on the planet today, including you, CHOSE to be here now.  This means at a Soul level, each and every one of us intended to be part of these r-evolutionary changes.  Indeed I believe the discovery of the Higgs Boson, or ‘God Particle’ reflects this revelatory leap forward in human consciousness foretold by the ancients long ago.  Since physicists discovered that consciousness creates reality, human beings now KNOW that we are responsible for the realities we are experiencing because we are the ones co-creating those realities through the power of our free will choices, individually and collectively.

IT’S TIME TO EMBRACE THE NEW!

IT’S TIME TO CHOOSE CHANGE!

BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD!

VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

Aries New Moon: Seedlings Take Root

AriesGlyph17The Aries New Moon is the first New Moon of the natural year!  It occurs on April 18th, 2015, at 11:57 am MST at 28 degrees Aries.  Here’s the chart:  AriesNewMoon2015.  This New Moon carries a powerful ‘slow burn’ energy pattern that wants to establish and secure what’s been recently begun (November 2014 and January 2015) so that it will not only survive but ultimately thrive.

This New Moon juxtaposes opposite Yin and Yang energies.  Aries energy is quintessentially Yang, instinctively initiating actions that create new directions and new beginnings in life.  However, Mars, Aries’ ruling planet, is currently in Taurus, a pure Yin energy that deliberately slows action and consolidates forces to ‘ground’ new beginnings and manifest them into physical reality.  What Aries begins, Taurus establishes and stabilizes.

Happening at 28 degrees of Aries, this New Moon is actually void of course, meaning that the Sun and Moon will not make any more aspects with other planets before leaving Aries and entering Taurus.  Accordingly, you should wait at least a couple of days, or until the Sun enters Taurus, before taking any important steps or actions

The coming month will require patience as well as the ability to act spontaneously as alternating energies both drive you to action and draw you to stillness.  To successfully combine the best of both Yin and Yang influences, allow your intuition to be your guide.  By listening to your inner guidance, you’ll know when it’s time to act and when it’s time to wait for further insight or understanding before moving forward once again.

The Sun enters Taurus on April 20th increasing the consolidating and stabilizing forces available to nurture what’s new.  This is the time to ‘transplant’ your ‘seedlings’ into a loving ‘garden’ where they’ll put down roots that will sustain their continuing growth.  As thoughts increasing turn to matters of security, invest in what’s most meaningful and valuable to you, including your self!  Make the effort now to nurture and steadfastly care for what’s really important in your life, knowing that if you do the work, Autumn will bring an abundant harvest!

Indeed many recently initiated goals and projects embody high-minded spiritual values and universal principles. It’s really crucial now to ‘walk your talk.’  Let inspiration be your guide.  Keep moving forward – ONE STEP AT A TIME – implementing necessary actions in pursuit of noble and worthy personal, professional and spiritual goals.

This advice may seem counter-intuitive to those who follow in lock-step with mainstream ideas and expectations especially when it comes to ‘conventional wisdom’ about how to develop a business, pursue meaningful goals or invest in personal growth.  However, those who are wise know that the r-evolutionary influence of Uranus square Pluto is still quite active, and will continue to be so for several years to come.  In fact, ironically, now that the seven precise square aspects between these two are finished (June 2012 to March 2015), their peak influence has really just begun.

Progress now requires that we break free of old paradigms, particularly patriarchal paradigms that favor exclusion over inclusion, self-interest over sharing, hierarchy and control over equality and fairness.  Perhaps even more important however is a shift away from an almost exclusive left-brained, deductive way of thinking that has long favored logic over intuition and ‘cold hard facts’ over dreams.  Of course it’s always wise to stay tethered to reality, but equally important is the power of our right-brained holistic, intuitive thought processes that see beyond the limitations of the physical world.  Our right brain sees the whole picture – not just the parts, and can conceptualize and imagine what’s possible, not just what’s practical.  Intuition and imagination are the fuels that manifest our dreams.

Pluto just stationed retrograde on April 16th.  It’s still ‘stationary’ or appearing to stand  still in the heavens from our point of view here on Earth.  Stationing planets are super powerful.  Pluto symbolizes the Soul and the evolutionary process.  Until September 24th, Pluto retrograde will encourage a review of our Soul’s deepest desires.  Pluto retrograde in Capricorn (structures) will bring our attention to the nature of our current realities.  Capricorn rules the structural nature of human consciousness.  Consciousness creates reality.  Between now and September, we have an opportunity to honestly self-reflect upon what’s working and what’s not working in our world.

Want an example of how our consciousness, individually and collectively, creates our realities!  Consider how all of us are conditioned, almost from birth, to be afraid.  We’re taught to be afraid of power and authority, of losing our jobs, or not having adequate insurance, or losing our investments or even a loved one.  We’re taught to be afraid of strangers and of people from cultures that are different.  We’re taught to fear disease and identity theft and even asteroids that could destroy the planet!  For heavens sake, if you watch the news, you’re probably terrified on a daily basis!  Now consider how much ‘terrorism’ there is in our world.  This is NOT a coincidence.  Or to be more precisely accurate, I should say that it is indeed a ‘coincidence’ (coinciding incidents)!  Global terrorism is simply a reflection of the quality of our individual and collective consciousness.  Global terrorism is an outer manifestation of our inner terror and fears.

Pluto also symbolizes power and learning the right use of power.  As humans, our greatest power is our power to co-create which we do in nearly every waking moment through our free will choices.  The choices we make inherently reflect the quality of our consciousness.  Free will choices co-create our reality, consciously and unconsciously and facilitate our ongoing evolution.  The really awesome power of free will choices is when choices are made CONSCIOUSLY, not unconsciously.  Clearly its time to reclaim our power and use it consciously to co-create what we WANT, not what we don’t want!

So consider that the best use of this retrograde period is to take complete responsibility for what you’re co-creating in your life.  If you’ve experienced it, you can be sure that your consciousness helped to co-create it.  Pluto retrograde in Capricorn is a chance to re-empower your self by CONSCIOUSLY CO-CREATING your realities.

Of course in order to succeed at co-creating more desirable realities, you must determine what part of your consciousness (thoughts, beliefs) has been responsible for creating the reality or experiences that you don’t want or that’s no longer working or serving you.  The ultimate evolutionary lesson of Pluto in Capricorn is realizing that to change your reality, you must literally change your mind!

Mars, the ruling planet of this Aries New Moon, currently in Taurus, just sextiled (60 degrees) Neptune in Pisces and squared (90 degrees) Jupiter in Leo.  Together, these aspects provide the ‘juice’ to overcome the doubts of naysayers (including our own inner critic) and truly believe in your self and your dreams. It’s time to reach higher and see farther, trusting your Higher Self to guide and inspire you to create what really matters.  It’s time to realize (make real) your greatest Soul level desires.  Its time to manifest your greatest personal potential.

Further favorable support for your efforts is an upcoming waxing trine aspect (120 degrees) between Mars and Pluto on April 21st.  Mars and Pluto are a natural planetary pair.  Astrologically, Mars is known as the lower ‘octave’ of Pluto.  Again, Pluto symbolizes the Soul and its deepest desires, which for most of us reside at an unconscious level.  Mars instinctively acts upon our Soul’s deepest desires.  Mars trine Pluto reflects a tremendously positive and beneficial planetary influence that brings rewards for past efforts while simultaneously empowering current efforts.  Mars can act successfully now to manifest what really matters most.  Mars trine Pluto is an awesome invitation to evolve forward in leaps and bounds relative to your Soul’s evolutionary growth intentions in this lifetime!

So Spring has sprung!  It’s time to transplant all your new seedlings so they can take root.  Make the effort to really nurture and tend to them.  Seedlings are the perfect metaphor for our dreams and desires.  All they really need to grow is our conscious loving care and attention…

Aries New Moon

AriesGlyph3The Aries New Moon occurs on Sunday, March 30th at 11:45 am MST/PDT at 9 degrees Aries 59 minutes. Here’s the chart: Aries New Moon 2014.  Aries is the first sign of the zodiac symbolizing the bursting forth of new life each Spring. This sign instinctively initiates action and tirelessly moves forward in new directions. Its purpose is to discover something unknown but special about itself and its destiny. Aries needs absolute freedom in order to pursue these personal experiences. In fact, if Aries is limited in any way, it responds with anger as it pushes forward anyway!

This New Moon in Aries is joined by Uranus, the asteroid Juno (partnership commitments) and the Moon’s South Node all symbolizing an urgent desire to forge new ways of relating to ourselves and to one another, especially the feminine half of humanity. This lunation activates the Grand Cardinal Cross of 2014 anchored by Uranus square Pluto – which itself is activating the ongoing manifestation of social revolutionary ‘seeds’ originally sown in the ‘60’s when this planetary cycle began. No wonder the same issues that demanded attention then are back in our headlines today including women’s rights, minority rights, voting rights and matters of war and peace!

Cardinal energy (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) initiates actions, but typically does so in a dance of two steps forward, one step back. This is because moving into new experiences creates uncertainty and insecurity.  A step back in order to re-establish security is often necessary before we can muster the courage to take two more steps forward.  Often it is also because something from the past needs to be retrieved in order to successfully move forward. Perhaps we need to recreate the revolutionary fervor of the ‘60’s in order to bring about much needed global social and economic reforms now.  Or perhaps we need to reach back much further to a time before dominant patriarchal influences when we lived communally, sharing everything from food, to shelter, and even the responsibility for rearing children.  During those times we also lived in much greater harmony with and reverence for the natural world.

Mars rules Aries and is therefore the ruling planet of this New Moon.  Mars is currently retrograde (March 1 to May 19) in Libra, the sign of peace, relationships and equality. How we treat one another is topic number one since the Nodes of the Moon recently entered the signs of Aries and Libra last month (February 18, 2014).  Achieving greater balance and justice in intimate partnership matters, issues of marriage, gender and income equality, ongoing racial disparities and increased efforts in national diplomacy are all front and center in our personal and collective realities now demanding fundamental r-evolutionary changes if we are to effectively solve the current problems we face and move forward towards a better tomorrow for all of us.

Unfortunately, Mars is NOT happy being retrograde or being in Libra, its opposite sign! These influences are effectively curbing Mars’ natural tendency towards rash behavior.  They are forcing deliberation and contemplation before actions are taken. We need look no further than the near universal global condemnation of Russia’s military (Mars) aggression and intervention in the Ukraine as it recently annexed the Crimean peninsula to understand how ‘martial’ energy is currently being restrained and limited.  This restraining influence is also evident in the United State’s decision to NOT respond militarily.  Humanity’s evolution now requires that we THINK, very carefully, before we ACT!

The Sun and Moon in Aries will repeatedly aspect Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Cancer, Pluto in Capricorn and retro Mars in Libra over the next few days energizing the Grand Cardinal Cross. Additionally, further connections between Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto and Mars will continue to unfold over the coming weeks with the Grand Cardinal Cross reaching a point of precision from April 20-23.

Rebellious Uranus in Aries just wants to overthrow the entire status quo!  Its revolutionary impulses will be mighty strong over the coming weeks so use this energy wisely to courageously chart a new course for yourself in areas of your life that have become stagnant or are preventing further personal growth. Open up to new experiences and different ways of doing things.  This will allow for new opportunities and new perspectives that help you break free of old outworn ideas and familiar but limiting patterns of behavior.

Jupiter in Cancer reflects the extreme emotionality of these times.  Emotional dependencies and insecurities associated with religious extremism, nationalism and protectionism can threaten current efforts towards greater global peace and cooperation.  We all need to develop a greater sense of INNER emotional security realizing that the emotional balance and well-being we desire can only truly come from within us, not through any outer source.

Pluto in Capricorn stations retrograde on April 14th just one day before a Total Lunar Eclipse in Libra that will be visible from much of the Western hemisphere including the Americas.  Stationary Pluto will require patience and thorough consideration of any new ideas or plans based upon reality not idealism or wishful thinking.  The old guard will tenaciously hold onto the status quo and continue to exert their considerable power and influence.  Changes WILL inevitably come; but some will take more time than others.

Venus enters Pisces on the 5th and then conjuncts Neptune and Chiron on the 11th and 20th respectively.  These ethereal celestial energies will soften the nervous, anxious and edgy energy of the Cardinal Cross allowing divine inspiration, compassion, empathy and forgiveness to guide our actions and decisions.  There’s no better planetary connection than Venus/Neptune for spiritual guidance or inspired artistic expression.  There’s danger in Venus/Chiron however.  Be sure to review past wounds and traumas with a desire to understand WHY your Soul chose to co-create such experiences for yourself and how those experiences have facilitated the lessons your Soul has chosen to learn and evolve through in this lifetime.  Without this kind of objective analysis, wounds are likely to be re-imprinted and simply continue a consciousness of victimization.

And finally, a Solar Eclipse in Taurus on the 28th will demand a much greater responsibility in the use of precious but limited natural resources.  On a more personal level, Taurus has to do with values and possessions.  Taurus teaches self-reliance and self-development so we learn to meet our own needs which is far more empowering than depending on someone else to take care of us.  Solar Eclipses follow a 19 year cycle.  So think back to what was happening for you in 1995 for greater insights about how this eclipse energy is likely to manifest in your own personal life since repeating astrological cycles often recreate similar events and experiences.

Also of great importance is the fact that the Grand Cardinal Cross, precise from April 20th to the 23rd will dramatically  impact the United States natal chart as it exactly aligns with our Sun in Cancer square Saturn in Libra.  In mundane astrology, which interprets the charts of nations, both the Sun and Saturn are planets associated with leadership.  America will have an extraordinary opportunity to further evolve over the coming weeks and months as our resources, values, security, self-image, beliefs and reputation are challenged and changed.

The U.S. natal Sun in Cancer is in the 2nd house of values and resources while Saturn in Libra is in the 5th house of creativity and purpose.  Those who understand the true purpose and evolutionary growth intentions of America as a nation know that our destiny is to foster and promote equality, fairness and justice for ALL.  These are lessons we began learning at our nation’s founding when many of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were themselves slave owners and voting rights were granted exclusively to white men who were property owners.  It continues today as we are now learning to see ourselves as an equal among nations, not as a ‘superior’ nation.  Its no coincidence that it has recently become commonplace among some Americans to vigorously defend a national self-image of ‘exceptionalism.’  ALL nations are exceptional just as all human beings are special in their own unique way.  We continue to learn the lessons of ‘different’ but ‘equal’ and to see diversity as a strength, not a weakness.

The current Grand Cardinal Cross influence has never before been experienced by our nation in all of our 238 years of existence.  We may well be in for historic events and experiences in the near future.  Our leaders will surely be tested over the coming weeks and months as r-evolutionary social, cultural, political and economic changes continue to manifest throughout the world.  Now more than ever before we need to lead by the power of example, not by the power of force.

What new directions are unfolding in your life? Are you courageous enough to forge ahead in spite of your fears of the unknown? What new ideas are demanding your attention and action now?  Are you ready to bust out and break free?!

The current celestial influences are a once in a lifetime opportunity to change our destiny both personally and collectively. Historic and life-changing events are on the horizon! Perhaps it’s now or never so take that BIG proverbial ‘leap of faith’ and dare to boldly create the future you desire and that we all deserve!

Uranus Squares Pluto: The R-evolution Continues…

On Monday, May 20th, Uranus squares (90 degree angle) retrograde Pluto at 11 degrees Aries/Capricorn at 3:21 pm MST.  This is the third of seven squares between these two outer planets that began in 2012 and will continue until 2015.

It’s uncommon for two planets to experience seven exact ‘hits’ in any given aspect (angular relationship) between them.  Multiple aspect hits occur due to apparent retrograde motion as an exact angle is reached again and again while the planets are moving back and forth over the same degrees of the zodiac.  This usually accounts for three exact hits between planets; seven exact hits are quite rare.

But given the level of change needed on our planet to heal and resolve our problems (socially, politically, financially and environmentally) it may well be that seven exact squares are required!  And even though these seven square aspects will take about two and a half years to occur (from June 24, 2012 to March 16, 2015) their influence has already been unfolding for the past five years and will continue to do so for several years beyond 2015.  We are literally in the midst of a decade of extraordinary global social change.

Uranus square Pluto is the THE current astrological signature reflecting the various prophecies about this changing time in human history.  It’s associated with humanity ‘waking-up’ and becoming aware of the crucial role each of us has in the co-creation of reality.  As more and more individuals awaken and realize the role consciousness plays in creating both individual and collective reality, the more the world around us will change.

Uranus and Pluto are heavyweights relative to the processes of transformation, particularly the transformation of human consciousness.  Pluto is directly associated with the evolutionary process and Uranus is associated with revolutionary processes.  As Pluto moves through the sign of Capricorn, which specifically rules the structural nature of human consciousness, human consciousness will surely evolve and as a result, the reality humanity experiences will also surely undergo great metamorphic change as well.

Uranus is associated with liberation and freedom and helps us to break free and to break through old crystallized patterns of beliefs and behaviors that have become so stagnant that they are preventing or undermining further evolutionary growth and development.

So Pluto = evolution and Uranus = revolution.  Together, these forces have been associated with the dramatic social and political changes on our planet since 2008 when Pluto first moved into Capricorn and even more so since 2010 when Uranus moved into Aries and the square aspect between these two planets began to form.

Capricorn rules the principle of contraction and sure enough, the global economy began to contract in 2008 as the United States housing market collapsed and threatened to take the economy with it.  Financial contraction continues and will likely do so for many more years since Pluto won’t leave Capricorn until 2023-2024.

The 9.0 magnitude earthquake that struck off the east coast of Japan and caused the tsunami that crippled the Fukushima nuclear power plant occurred within hours of Uranus moving back into Aries on March 11, 2011 where it will stay for seven years.  Aries rules new beginnings and instinctive actions.  Uranus rules the unexpected.  So from an astrological perspective, natural events like earth changes and political events like the Arab Spring made complete sense to astrologers while most world governments were taken completely by surprise.  Uranus will remain in Aries until 2018-2019.  Perhaps it will take that long for real change to occur with such huge issues of our time like how we generate power and how people are governed.

The current Uranus/Pluto cycle, which will last for 127 years, began in 1965-1966.  These two planets came together in the middle degrees of Virgo then and ‘seeded’ revolutions in technology, politics, health care, the workplace, the environment and human rights.  Have you noticed that the same issues that were headlines then are headlines again now including women’s rights, voting rights and minority rights, not to mention universal health care and environmental concerns like climate change?

I have smiled many times over the past couple of years when I’ve heard people including political pundits remark that current events remind them of the 60’s.  They couldn’t be more right!

So here we are, at the threshold of yet another installment of the Uranus Pluto force for evolutionary and revolutionary change throughout the world.  As the headlines fill up with extraordinary news events day after day, and individuals face surprising events that threaten to upset their personal, financial or workplace security, the pace of evolutionary and revolutionary change will continue to accelerate.

Now that Uranus and Pluto are in their waxing first quarter square (90 degree angle), the $64,000 question is, “What new forms and structures are necessary for the ‘seed’ intentions begun in the 60’s to take root and manifest properly?”  The answer is a big one.  It will require no less than a complete shift in how societies organize themselves to meet the needs of ALL the people on our planet, not just a few.

And as of December 21, 2012, this shift is underway.  In spite of the obfuscation by the western press and so-called ‘experts,’ of many of the world’s ancient culture’s prophecies regarding a ‘shift of the ages’ for our time, the most notable of which were the Mayans, these prophecies were NOT wrong.  They were instead misunderstood at best, and deliberately misrepresented at worst.

The ‘shift of the ages’ that occurred had to do with a repositioning of our solar system relative to the center of our Milky Way galaxy.  The shift that occurred is part of a 26,000 year cycle that changes the quality of cosmic energy that regulates the evolution of creation.  The change in energy was from masculine (electrical) energy to feminine (magnetic) energy.

These two energy types spur different evolutionary growth paths for humanity.  For the last 13,000 years as masculine energy has regulated evolution, growth has proceeded towards development of individual consciousness and the understanding of physical reality (matter).  For the next 13,000 years, evolutionary growth will be regulated by feminine energy and will proceed through development of collective consciousness and the understanding of non-physical realities (spirituality).  In short, we are now shifting towards a matriarchal social organizational paradigm and shifting away from a patriarchal social organizational paradigm.

For millennia, the matriarchal model has been misunderstood and maligned as a social paradigm organized around women being in charge and dominating men.  This understanding could not be more wrong.  Instead, matriarchy focuses on the rights, needs and well-being of ALL members of society, not just those who are ‘in charge.’  In a matriarchal society, everyone does better when, well, EVERYONE does better.  Individual needs are weighed and balanced with the needs of the whole or the collective.

Consider the following summary of attributes that characterize these two opposite social paradigms:

MATRIARCHY – Giving, sharing, inclusion, group interest

PATRIARCHY – Hierarchy, dominance, exclusion, self-interest

To tell the difference between these two types of consciousness paradigms you need only to listen to the words people use.  If their language is inclusive and seeks to consider the needs and well-being of everyone, they are coming from a matriarchal paradigm.  If their language is exclusive and seeks to consider only the needs and well-being of a few, they’re coming from a patriarchal paradigm.

Now apply these differences in consciousness/thinking/organizing/governing on a global level to current issues like extreme income disparity, health care, immigration reform, voting rights and marriage equality.  Or simply consider basic human needs like clean air and water, healthy food, secure housing and equal access to a good education.  It’s really not hard to figure out which paradigm people are coming from.

Considering all the crises we currently face in our world, it’s also not hard to conclude that the patriarchal paradigm that has been the norm for thousands of years has reached its natural limits and is no longer working — financially, environmentally, politically or socially.  It’s time to embrace a collective consciousness and approach towards evolution.  The human collective changes one individual at a time and this explains why so many people are now experiencing great changes in their own personal lives.  What changes are underway for you?

So what can you do to successfully navigate these extraordinary times of change and not just survive but thrive?  The challenge in experiencing these influences is to NOT RESIST THE CHANGES!  Human beings seek security and security comes from what’s familiar — even when what’s familiar may have long since ceased being healthy or making you happy.  So it’s human nature to resist change.  But know that both Pluto and Uranus bring NECESSARY change.  Evolutionary change is not only a biological but also a spiritual imperative!  Sadly, resistance to necessary evolutionary change simply sets up a much more cataclysmic event later on that will FORCE the necessary change because it’s been resisted for far too long.

So whatever is happening in your world, especially if it shows up completely unexpectedly, DON’T RESIST IT or fight against it.  Instead, let it unfold and watch where it takes you.  Chances are great that it will eventually deliver you to a much healthier, happier place once the dust settles.  Try to embrace the change as willingly as you can.  Take baby steps towards the change until you can take bigger steps.  And finally, TRUST THE PROCESS!  After all, it’s your Soul that’s directing your life path and it will only take you where you’ve always intended to go in order to evolve and grow in this lifetime — a lifetime happening during one of the most dramatic and exciting shifts in the human experience that’s occurred in 13,000 years!

May you move forward through your life’s evolutionary and revolutionary changes with grace and ease…

Blessings, Donna

Aries New Moon

AriesAries is the first sign of the zodiac and therefore represents new beginnings.  With so many planets in Aries this month including Eris, there are LOTS of new beginnings underway or ready to be launched.  But Aries energy initiates instinctive actions that are typically not well thought out.  A stressful connection between Uranus in Aries and retro Saturn in Scorpio reflects the likelihood that changes and necessary adjustments will be required along the way as new plans are implemented especially regarding how these plans will affect others.  And since ALL of the Aries planets have or will square Pluto in Capricorn, expect powerful pushback from established ‘powers’ who want to maintain the status quo at all costs.   Aries New Moon Chart 2013

In fact, one of the strongest indications of this month’s Aries New Moon energy is the beginning of a major shift in how we treat each other and how we experience all kinds of relationships from family and friends to colleagues and neighbors and even other nations.  Venus and Mars (relationship planets) have just begun a new cycle together that includes the influence of recently discovered Eris, a plutoid planet that seems to represent the discord and chaos that’s resulted from thousands of years of suppression of feminine power.  We have now reached a point in our collective human evolution that demands a different way of relating to one another.  This new way must and will reject old destructive and violent paradigms of hierarchy, dominance and exclusion and replace them with the inclusiveness and sharing that underpins a more balanced, respectful and peaceful social paradigm that recognizes a world community of equals.

Aries needs freedom to pursue its instinctive desires and when that’s thwarted, Aries gets angry.  Channel anger and aggression into the courage to break free and break through to new levels of collaboration and cooperation that benefits all not just some.

Aries rules many things including firsts, athletes, guns, violence, initiative, the head and war.  Just look at current headlines and you’ll immediately see all this Aries energy manifesting:  North Korea threatening nuclear war, the National Football league being sued by players regarding traumatic brain injuries due to repeated concussions, the U. S. Army removing barriers to women in combat roles allowing them to compete for top military ranks, gun violence prevention legislation battling its way to a vote in Congress, the White House announcing the ‘Brain Initiative’ to fund research to complete mapping of the brain and speculation about a Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential run that could result in our nation’s first female President.

This new moon will coincide with LOTS of new beginnings that will significantly transform our world.  Be ready to think new thoughts, begin new relationships, start new jobs and initiate new projects.  Expect to take two steps forward followed by one step back in order to make changes along the way that will ensure success.  And be especially willing to compromise with and consider the desires and needs of others…

The Taurus New Moon is a Solar Eclipse on May 9th at 5:28 am MST!

Occupy Wall Street and the Astrology of 2012

On September 17th just as Venus (money) in Libra (fairness) was about to square Pluto (power) in Capricorn (governments and social structures) a few dozen people came to Zucchotti Park (Liberty Plaza) adjacent to Wall Street in the financial district of downtown Manhattan and set up camp.  They came to non-violently protest corporate greed, political corruption and extreme income disparity in America.  For the first few days no one seemed to notice the encampment but by day five the media had begun to pay attention to this disparate group calling themselves ‘Occupy Wall Street.’

Since then this small protest gathering has gained considerable momentum and is now being called a political ‘movement.’  This movement has continued to grow and has spread to cities and towns all across the United States including the Alaskan tundra!  It has also spread around the world from Tahrir square where Egyptian protestors declared they ‘stand in solidarity with OWS’ to Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Japan, Australia, South Africa, Canada and elsewhere in hundreds of international cities on five continents across the globe.

So what’s going on?  At its core, I believe this movement is a harbinger of revolutionary global social, financial and political change and is a direct manifestation of the Astrology of 2012.

Have you noticed the growing number of references recently to the 1960’s?  People have been saying that what’s going on now with OWS reminds them of the anti-war protests and sit-ins that happened during the ‘60’s.  These people are rightly comparing these two-time periods because they do indeed have a powerful common connection and it’s astrological.  That common connection is Uranus and Pluto.

During 1965-66 Uranus and Pluto came together three times in the sign of Virgo at 16 and 17 degrees.  Astrologers call this ‘coming together’ between two planets a conjunction.   Conjunctions always begin a new planetary cycle between two planets.  Most people are familiar with a very common planetary cycle — the cycle between the Sun and Moon.  Every 28 days the Sun and Moon begin a new cycle we call the New Moon.

Though each Sun/Moon cycle lasts for 28 days, we primarily recognize and pay attention to only four days during their cycle:  the New Moon (conjunction), the 1st quarter Moon (waxing 90 degree square), the Full Moon (180 degree opposition) and the 3rd quarter square (waning 90 degree square).

Astrologically, the most important times associated with ANY planetary cycle occur during these same four distinct events:  conjunction, 1st quarter square, opposition, and 3rd quarter square.  Since the total length of any planetary cycle depends upon the relative speeds at which the two planets involved orbit around the Sun, different planetary cycles take different amounts of time to completely unfold.  For example, while the Sun/Moon cycle takes only 28 days, Jupiter/Mars cycles take a little over 2 years, and Saturn/Uranus cycles take 45-46 years.  The cycle between Uranus and Pluto takes 127 years!  What began as a new cycle between Uranus and Pluto in 1965 is now approaching its next important point of cyclic unfolding – its 1st quarter square.

So what does this all mean?!

The place to begin our understanding of this important astrological event is with a brief explanation of the archetypes associated with the planets and signs involved at the start of this cycle.  This is because the starting point of every planetary cycle foretells what will ultimately unfold in that cycle.  Thus we’ll begin with an archetypal description of the planets Uranus and Pluto, and of the sign Virgo.

Uranus represents the principle of revolution and liberation.  It frees us from the limitations of old ways that are preventing further evolutionary growth and change.  Pluto represents the life, death, rebirth process.  It facilitates evolution at the deepest and most profound levels.  Virgo represents work, health (including environmental health) and service.  Its energy typically manifests through crises that require thorough analysis of problems so that necessary adjustments can be made that will bring about healing or resolution of those crises.

Anyone who lived through the ‘60’s in America can certainly attest to it being a time of crisis and great revolutionary social change.  The fight for minority rights resulted in landmark Civil Rights legislation President Johnson signed into law in July 1964.  The Women’s Liberation movement gained attention and prominence as it further evolved.  Tragically, it was also a time marked by many deaths as assassinations took the lives of President Kennedy (November 1963), his brother Bobby and Martin Luther King (April and June 1968).  The Vietnam War claimed more than 50,000 lives and still more loss of life occurred when four unarmed student protestors were shot by the Ohio National Guard at Kent State University in May 1970.  Revolution was the zeitgeist of the time as protests broke out all over the country demanding social justice and political change.

Fast forward to the present and consider the tenets of Occupy Wall Street.  The movement is calling attention to extreme income disparity and wealth inequality, high unemployment, lack of affordable health care for all, erosion of individual rights such as privacy rights, voting rights and worker’s collective bargaining rights, degradation of the environment, unending wars and a system of government so corrupt that it is unable to solve the crises at hand and has lost credibility with its citizens.  In short, OWS protests decry corporate and government policies that pursue profits at the cost of people and the environment.

Indeed revolution is once again in the air and in the streets!  So what will Occupy Wall Street accomplish?  Let’s take a look at the chart (12:00 pm, September 17, 2011, Manhattan, New York) to see.

With Scorpio on the Ascendant, Pluto is the ruler of this chart.  As stated earlier, Pluto is associated directly with evolutionary growth.  Evolution is facilitated by choice-making.  Specifically, it is facilitated by free will choices.  The $64,000 question is, “What choices will the Occupy movement make?”  Equally important of course is what choices are made in response to the protestors by those in positions of power.

Pluto is in Capricorn in the second house.  The second house is about resources, particularly those resources necessary for survival.  OWS argues that the inequitable distribution of resources is at the very heart of our financial crisis.  Pluto in this second house reflects the need for evolutionary change relative to wealth distribution and the economy.

In turn, Saturn rules Capricorn and is in Libra in the 11th house.  Libra represents extremes.  This is why Libra is associated with the need to learn balance, fairness and equality.  So it appears that OWS is on to something as it points out the extreme inequality of wealth distribution and income disparity between the rich and poor.

Some background info about Capricorn is in order before we go any further into this chart analysis.  Capricorn represents the principle of contraction.  Transiting Pluto entered Capricorn in January 2008.  While the global economy grew during Pluto’s prior 1994-2008 passage through Sagittarius, the sign representing the principle of expansion, it began to contract just as Pluto entered Capricorn.  Pluto’s change of sign from Sagittarius to Capricorn is reflected in the economic downturn that has diminished the personal resources of so many over the past three years through job losses, decreases in 401(k)s and retirement accounts and housing foreclosures.

This same contracting influence has also led to growing government debt as tax revenues have significantly decreased and benefit costs have simultaneously increased due to high unemployment.   It should be no surprise then that the subject of increasing political debate worldwide over the past three years has been debt and deficits.  Clearly, we’ve reached a point in time where we must make decisions (choices) about how to resolve the financial crises that threaten the global economy.

Okay, back to the chart analysis…

Pluto is trine (120 degrees apart) retrograde Jupiter (rules Sagittarius and therefore expansion) in Taurus in the 6th house (the workforce).  This symbolizes how massive the financial crisis is among the working class.  The 6th house is naturally associated with Virgo so Jupiter’s position here confirms that the problem of how resources are shared has indeed reached a point of crisis.

Pluto in Capricorn is just about to be exactly squared by Venus in Libra in the OWS chart.  Venus rules money and resources.  Libra symbolizes the need to learn how to be in relationships as an equal – not dominating or being dominated by others.  This core astrological signature represents Occupy Wall Street’s focus on the gross inequality and unfairness associated with extreme income disparity; the rich dominating the poor.

Venus sits near the top of the chart and is therefore in a stronger position than Pluto.  Venus has also just opposed (180 degrees apart) Uranus, the planet of revolution which is also forming a square aspect (90 degrees apart) to Pluto.  Working class people are fed up and are beginning to take their power back.

OWS is demanding change to the status quo (Pluto in Capricorn).   Venus seems to be saying that the changes (choices) needed to heal the economic crises will be championed by the power of the people (Venus in Libra), not the people in power (Pluto in Capricorn).  Ordinary people will lead the way towards change.

The most dynamic feature of this chart is the 10th house Mercury squaring the Nodes of the Moon.  At 14 degrees Virgo (crises) Mercury is only two degrees away from the degree at which this current Uranus/Pluto planetary cycle began in 1965 (16 degrees Virgo).  Mercury rules information and communication and the 10th house rules leadership.  A simple interpretation of this astrological signature is ‘speaking truth to power.’  And that truth is that the majority of people are in crisis!

Mercury in Virgo also indicates a need for clear analysis of the facts of the crisis.  It signifies the need for changes that can ultimately resolve the crises.   Pressed for ‘demands’ OWS has consistently said it is dedicated instead to initiating a necessary and truthful conversation (Mercury) about the needs of the people and how to best meet everyone’s needs, not just the needs of the rich.

In Evolutionary Astrology, a planet square the Nodes is called a ‘skipped step’ and carries a karmic quality.  Skipped step planets are always a primary focal point in any chart and reflect a lesson that’s been underway for some time but not yet completely learned because of the desire to ‘skip ahead’ before that lesson is fully mastered.

The Nodes are in the signs of Sagittarius and Gemini.  These are the signs associated with truth and honesty as well as lies and distortions of truth.  The Nodes fall in the 1st and 7th houses of the chart which are the houses naturally associated with the signs Aries and Libra.   Aries (1st house) and Libra (7th house) make up the ‘relationship axis’ and represent the goal of equality that enables everyone to get their needs met.

The message of this skipped step is that the resolution of our current crises requires that people speak up and speak the truth.  It also reflects the need to listen (7th house/Libra) to the voices and opinions (Gemini) of everyone involved – not just the powerful and the privileged.

The ‘voices of the people’ are reflected through a tremendous diversity (Gemini) among the OWS movement participants.  Occupy protestors represent all ages, races, ethnicities, political parties and work backgrounds.  It is sadly symbolic that Scott Olsen, a two-term Iraq veteran, suffered a fractured skull and brain damage when hit in the head by a police fired tear gas canister as they routed Occupy Oakland on October 25th.  As a result he sustained a loss of speech capacity – he lost his voice.  Since then, he’s experienced a dramatic recovery and is once again participating in OWS rallies and marches.  So far, the more those in power – the police and politicians – try to silence the voices (Mercury) of the common people (Gemini), the more they unwittingly energize the OWS movement.

The resolution of this skipped step (Mercury square the Nodes) is symbolized by the North Node in Sagittarius in the 1st house.  But the way forward toward that resolution is through the South Node in Gemini in the 7th house — listening to and treating as equal — the voices of ALL the people.  This will bring out the truth which then must be faced head on.  Interestingly, the Occupy movement has organized itself into ‘General Assemblies’ and is using an arduous but ultimately democratic consensus decision-making process to discuss and determine what actions to pursue on behalf of their members and mission.

Perhaps the most intriguing thing to understand about the OWS chart however is its birth time.  To explain the importance of this timing we must go back to the current Uranus/Pluto cycle that began in 1965.

Historically, Uranus/Pluto cycles have always corresponded with progressive and irreversible global social revolutions.   As mentioned earlier, this planetary cycle is nearing its 1st quarter square.  The Uranus/Pluto 1st quarter square is at the very heart of the Astrology of 2012 and is the core astrological reason why the year 2012 is expected to bring about unprecedented global change!  Tremendous forces of evolutionary and revolutionary change are already manifesting and there’s no doubt that more will come – LOTS more!

Specifically, the energy inherent in any cycle’s 1st quarter square is characterized by the need to choose what forms to build or what type of structures must be developed in order to ultimately enable the fulfillment of the seed intention of that cycle.  1st quarter squares represent foundational structures and forms.  Therefore, the revolutionary changes associated with Uranus/Pluto’s 1st quarter square will challenge us to create new forms of social, governmental, political and financial structures and institutions.  OWS members say they are committed to creating a new, different and more equitable social paradigm.  Indeed they are!

The influence of this 1st quarter square has been unfolding for a few years now beginning with Pluto’s entrance into Capricorn in 2008.  But it really began to intensify last summer when Uranus moved into Aries.  And it accelerated even more when Solar and Lunar eclipses also began to occur in the signs of Cancer and Capricorn in June, July and December of 2010 and in January 2011.  Consider the following examples of major global events that have taken place since January 2011:

On January 8th U. S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot by Jared Lee Loughner in an assassination attempt that took the lives of six and injured nineteen other people in Tucson, Arizona.  On January 14th Tunisia’s President Ben Ali stepped down as uprisings all across northern Africa called the ‘Arab Spring’ had begun.  Protests spread to Egypt by January 25th and soon thereafter to Libya.  On March 11th a 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Japan and was followed by a devastating tsunami.  On August 5th the first-ever U.S. credit rating downgrade happened after Congress nearly failed to reach a deal to raise our debt ceiling.  The Gadhafi government was finally brought to an end with the dictator’s death on October 20th and on November 12th Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi stepped down marking the greatest political change in that country in over 20 years. That’s a LOT of global social, financial and political change in a relatively short period of time and it’s only a partial list of events!

It’s worth noting that while the overall influence of this 1st quarter Uranus/Pluto square is already underway, this square aspect will not technically be exact for the first time until June 24, 2012!  Thereafter, Uranus and Pluto will exactly square one another a total of SEVEN TIMES between June 2012 and March 2015!

Remember, the beginning of this cycle, when the exact conjunction of Uranus and Pluto occurred three times, was between October 1965 and June 1966.  But looking back, we know that its overall influence was felt for years before 1965 and years after 1966.  In total, the influence of the beginning of this current Uranus/Pluto cycle lasted for nearly the entire decade of the ‘60’s.  Similarly, the current Uranus/Pluto 1st quarter square’s influence will be felt for more than the three years of its exactitude (2012-2015). Astrologers expect the total time of influence and manifestation of this Uranus/Pluto 1st quarter square to last from about 2008 to about 2017.  Of course, this timeframe includes the year 2012!

In astrology, timing is everything.  And the timing of the birth of Occupy Wall Street has taken place within just a few months of the first exact 1st quarter square between Uranus and Pluto which is the cornerstone of the Astrology of 2012.  So the birth of the OWS movement correlates with the timing of the Uranus/Pluto 1st quarter square which itself correlates directly with the Astrology of 2012.  As stated earlier, we know that global revolutionary social change always occurs with a Uranus/Pluto cycle.  Protest movements come and go, but in my opinion, the timing of OWS clearly sets it apart from other uprisings in quite a remarkable way.  The birth time of OWS both reveals and portends that it is on to something and that something is BIG!

So what can we expect from OWS in the future?  Occupy Wall Street’s goal of speaking up and speaking the truth has the potential to keep growing for at least another couple of years or more.  In addition to the upcoming seven Uranus/Pluto squares that will occur between June 2012 and March 2015, this timing is also reflected in the aforementioned square forming between Venus and Pluto in the OWS chart.  A common astrological method used to ‘progress’ charts forward in time reveals that the Venus/Pluto square won’t actually be exact (90 degrees apart) until February 3, 2013.  Until then, its influence will surely continue to grow and accordingly, so will the influence of OWS.  By similar progression, the square of Mercury to the Nodes will not exactly culminate until June of 2013.

So it looks like OWS may indeed have significant staying power.  Their intention to carry on even as many of their encampments have been destroyed is evident in their latest slogan, “You cannot evict an idea whose time has come!”

Some say OWS has already been successful.  The movement has not only gone global, but has also changed the prevailing political discourse (Mercury) from ‘out of control deficit spending and big government’ to the ‘extreme income disparity’ at the root of the financial crisis.  Some also credit pressure from the OWS movement with Bank of America’s decision to rescind its ill-conceived debit card user fee enacted last summer.  The change OWS seeks to bring about is already happening.  However, upcoming transits throughout 2012-2015 will surely test and challenge OWS’ resolve.

If OWS is to continue to succeed it must maintain its core values of truth and honesty.  It must also continue to be as inclusive as possible welcoming the voices and opinions of ALL who wish to participate.  A peaceful (Libra) approach to restoring equality and justice will be required in order to prevail so OWS must also remain true to its principles of non-violent protest.  Finally, it must focus steadfastly on creating a radically new and different social, cultural, financial and political paradigm.  This new paradigm must be consciously designed to meet the needs of EVERYONE.

Fortunately, the time is right for this kind of revolutionary paradigm shift as we enter 2012 and the approaching 1st quarter square between Uranus and Pluto!

Viva la revolution!

Mars Retrograde in Virgo

Every couple of years Mars turns retrograde for approximately two and a half months.  The last time Mars went retrograde was from December 20, 2009 to March 10, 2010 in the sign of Leo.  This time the retrograde will occur in Virgo from January 23rd to April 13th.

There are many interpretations of this astrological signature.  Keeping it simple however, requires only that we look to the archetypes of Mars and Virgo to further understand the energy and influence of this celestial event.

Virgo is the sign associated with work, health and service.  This sign typically operates through crises that lead to intense self-analysis in order to understand what needs to be changed or adjusted to resolve the perpetual or cyclic nature of the crises.  Once the necessary adjustments have been made, self-improvement occurs.

Unfortunately, Virgo tends to focus disproportionately on what’s wrong instead of what’s right.  This negativity often devolves into judgment and criticism and the need to ‘atone’ for past mistakes.  A feeling of ‘not being good enough’ can lead to self-sabotaging behaviors and can even become the causative factor for illness.   Unconsciously, Virgos often use crises to distract themselves from themselves!  They’re so busy putting out fires that they never get around to addressing their own personal ‘stuff.’   Another classic Virgo tactic used to avoid doing necessary self-improvement work is becoming a workaholic.  There’s never enough time to do what needs to be done to take care of the self.

From a total zodiacal perspective, Virgo is a transitional archetype.  It is the last sign associated with development of the individual self (Aries through Virgo) before we experience the need to progressively socialize and integrate into the whole of society with others as an equal (Libra through Pisces).

Following Leo, the sign associated with the full development of the individual  ego-centric identity and the need to creatively express that unique identity, Virgo provides a necessary deflation of the ego that prepares us for the task of entering into relationships with others on an equal basis.  Virgo teaches humility which is often learned through a process of humiliation that serves to not only deflate the ego, but also to realign the ego-centric identity with its own Higher Self or Divine Will.

Mars is considered by Astrologers to be the ‘lower octave’ of Pluto and therefore directly associated with the Soul (Pluto).  Pluto operates at an unconscious level and is the source of the Soul’s evolutionary growth intentions in each lifetime.  For most of us, we can only come to consciously know our Soul’s intentions through Mars.  This is because Mars is the principle of instinctive action and what it instinctively acts out or acts upon are the desires for growth that emanate from the Soul.  So through Mars, we act on our desires and through this process, become the person our Soul intends us to become.

Because Mars always acts instinctively to pursue desires, it typically will not brook any interference in those pursuits.  When it meets with such interference or obstruction, anger usually results.  This is why Aries/Mars individuals require so much personal freedom.   Adequate freedom allows them to instinctively pursue their desires in an unfettered way.

Now imagine the planet of instinctive action, which naturally becomes angry whenever its actions are interrupted or interfered with in any way, having to STOP, turn around, and begin to move BACKWARD through the zodiac!  Suffice it to say, retrograde movement does not make Mars happy.  What retrograde movement of Mars does accomplish however is a slowing-down of the instinctive impulse to act so that thorough and thoughtful review of desired actions can take place.   Mars retrograde facilitates the necessary planning, analysis and preparation that results in greater success once actions are taken.

So in a nutshell, this upcoming Mars retrograde through Virgo will likely bring crises, delays, obstacles and a general thwarting of actions and initiatives for the purpose of necessary review.  Taking the time to thoroughly analyze problems and goals will allow for crucial changes and adjustments to be made that will have a positive effect on the outcome of actions that are ultimately taken.

So get ready for review time!  The best use of this Mars retrograde is to become more aware of the nature of both desires and crises in your life.  Perhaps you’ll notice a pattern in the kinds of problems you typically experience.  Or perhaps you’ll discover the extraordinary effectiveness that crises have had in your life relative to keeping you from doing what you know you should and could do for your own health and well-being.

Be prepared to positively manage your frustration when setbacks occur.  Consider whatever obstacles do show up to actually be your allies.  Accept the nature and timing of those obstacles as totally right and proper.  In fact, those obstacles will no doubt be the perfect facilitators of the need to rethink or review your plans.  Solicit and surrender to the guidance and direction of your Higher Self through prayer and meditation.

Virgo’s opposite sign is Pisces.  Opposite signs always point the way forward for evolutionary growth.  Pisces is the sign associated with spirituality and the desire to reunite with the source of our creation.  The spiritualization process is often facilitated by disillusionment or disappointments that reveal that what we thought had meaning and would provide happiness or ultimate fulfillment isn’t actually capable of doing so.  Through dissolving the meaning we falsely assign to desired people, places and things, Pisces serves to realign us with reality.

Used unwisely, Pisces can also provide an escape hatch for those not yet ready or willing to deal with reality or to see their life circumstances clearly.  We all need to ‘let our hair down’ occasionally.  But substance abuse and addiction can occur when escape becomes the preferred way of coping with disappointing realities.  On the upside, Pisces can provide the inspiration to ‘reimagine’ problems and opportunities.

Neptune rules Pisces and will enter Pisces for the next fourteen years on February 3rd in the midst of the Mars retrograde period.  When the Mars retrograde period ends on April 13th, Mars will be within just a degree of an exact opposition to Neptune.  This connection is typically associated with severe disillusionment and even deception so be especially mindful of the timely need to face realities squarely and to see things and people clearly as this Mars retrograde comes to an end.   Finding the courage to do so will be the factor/choice that allows you to move forward, slowly but successfully, once this retrograde period comes to an end.

Virgo and Pisces natives (and to a lesser degree Gemini and Sagittarius) will feel the influence of this Mars retrograde the most.  Aries and Scorpio natives will also be significantly affected since these two signs are ruled by Mars.  However, this retrograde will have some effect on nearly everyone since we all have Virgo somewhere in our chart.  Look to the houses where Virgo and Aries and Scorpio are on the cusps (Mars rules Aries and co-rules Scorpio) for clues about what areas of your life are due for an in-depth review during this retrograde.

Take ‘time outs’ to deeply ponder what’s not working in your life especially if it involves your everyday work routine or health.  If a health issue does need attention, consider the usefulness of natural remedies (Virgo).  Take steps now to improve nutrition and to ensure that you get plenty of rest.  And if diagnoses are confusing or uncertain (Pisces) don’t hesitate to get a second opinion especially if surgery is recommended.  Pets may also need extra attention during this retrograde period since Virgo rules them too.  Be extra kind and forgiving with everyone especially yourself.  And most importantly, resolve to make necessary changes and adjustments one step at a time as this strategy is most effective in overcoming Virgo’s ‘perfection paralysis.’

Every outer planetary retrograde reaches its halfway point when it opposes the Sun.  This Mars retrograde will be at its halfway point on March 4th.  The ‘review’ process encouraged by this Mars retrograde period will be the most intense during its first half from January 23rd to March 4th.   From March 4th to April 13th increasing energy and urgency to move forward and implement plans will begin to unfold.  If possible, it will be best to delay the beginning of any big new project or initiative until mid-April when the retrograde is complete.  But if you must begin something sooner, at least be aware of the likelihood of setbacks occurring that will probably prove frustrating, albeit necessary for ultimate success.

Above all else, use this retrograde period to generally SLOW DOWN!  Turn the focus of your attention inward.  The answers and insights you need now to make positive and necessary changes that can result in real evolutionary Soul growth in your life will be found by looking deeply inside.  And don’t forget to ask for help from whatever source of higher guidance you believe in.  The highest potential and best use of this Mars retrograde can result in tremendous personal healing, for individuals, and for our planet.

Many Blessings, Donna
