The Taurus New Moon is also an Annular Solar Eclipse! It happens at 11:14 pm MST/PDT at 8 degrees Taurus 51 minutes. Here’s the chart: TaurusNewMoonSolarEclipse2014. Annular Solar Eclipses are different than Total Solar Eclipses which completely cover the face of the Sun. The Sun and Moon typically appear to be the same size from our perspective here on Earth. But the Moon, whose orbit around our planet is elliptical, is currently at such a distance from us that it appears slightly smaller than usual and is therefore unable to completely cover the face of the Sun. The result is an ‘annular’ eclipse that creates an extraordinary ‘ring of fire!’ http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap020610.html.
New Moons always ‘seed’ new beginnings. Solar Eclipses are always associated with New Moons and further energize their intrinsic initiatory energy so this Taurus New Moon/Solar Eclipse will double the power of new beginnings now. Visible only in the far Southern reaches of our globe this eclipse will nevertheless impact all of us on planet Earth.
The symbol for Taurus is the bull who represents fertility, sexuality, survival, steadfastness, resources and values. In ancient times before the advent of money, valuable natural resources were used to trade for needed goods and services. These resources inevitably multiplied through natural breeding or propagation ensuring an ever increasing quantity and supply. They were truly renewable resources! It’s no wonder the bull has become a powerful iconic symbol of wealth and asset growth for Wall Street, the center of global financial markets.
On a more personal level, Taurus symbolizes the resources needed for survival and the confidence we develop as we learn to value and offer our unique individual skills and natural talents to the world. As we learn to take care of ourselves we become truly self-reliant. Instead of projecting our needs onto someone or something outside of ourselves, we learn to trust and rely upon ourselves to meet our needs and in so doing establish a healthy, loving relationship with our self. In the process we become truly self-empowered. Because Taurus is extremely magnetic in nature, our relationship with our self creates our unique individual vibratory frequency or ‘personal magnetism.’ In turn, this vibration is the causative factor in whom and what we attract in life. Indeed our relationships with others reflects our relationship with our self!
As the quintessential earth sign, Taurus also represents Gaia or the totality of consciousness of our Mother Earth. Her precious natural resources are limited. We’re currently experiencing increasing environmental crises of our own making that will ultimately lead either to our demise, or an awakening regarding the wisdom of effective stewardship of the natural world. Our survival depends upon her so at some point, we must learn to value her and to live in harmony with, not domination over her.
It’s perhaps timely to remember a wise old Cree prophecy: “When all the trees have been cut down, when all the animals have been hunted, when all the waters are polluted and all the air is unsafe to breathe, only then will you discover you cannot eat money.”
Deepak Chopra recently shared another very wise metaphysical insight regarding the troubling increase in turbulent weather we’ve been experiencing much more frequently. He said, “We’ve been taught for thousands of years that we’re separate from nature. We’re not separate from nature. When we settle down, nature will settle down!”
Venus rules Taurus and is currently at 25 degrees Pisces in a waning semi-square aspect (45 degrees) to the New Moon. This symbolizes the need to throw off materialistic consensus values, beliefs and expectations in exchange for more meaningful values and ideals. ‘Outer’ things will necessarily continue to lose meaning as we are inevitably drawn towards more unconditional, timeless natural laws and universal spiritual values. Devote time in the coming weeks to meditation and prayer, or the pursuit of philanthropy, artistic endeavors or simply dreaming and imagining what you want to manifest for yourself or others. And spend more time in nature — the ultimate salve for the Soul!
This New Moon initiates new directions relative to what’s most important and valuable personally and collectively. What we need, we’ll value. What we value will reflect what has great meaning in our lives. The more we value ourselves, the more we’re able to fully develop our unique capacities and relative value to the whole of society. How we are valued by others reflects how we value ourselves. Do you know what your natural gifts and abilities are? Have you invested in yourself to develop them? How well do you share these gifts with the world? Do you meet your own needs or expect someone else to take care of you and make you happy?
The Sun and Moon are connected to several planets now including Mercury which is also in Taurus, Venus in Pisces, retrograde Mars in Libra, Jupiter in Cancer, Neptune in Pisces and retrograde Pluto in Capricorn. All but one of these planetary connections are highly supportive. They can help us to take greater personal responsibility for our needs and goals and to ‘get real’ in order to move forward successfully in the many new directions recently chosen. Still important is the influence of the extraordinary Grand Cardinal Cross that reached precision last week but will continue to energize major personal and collective changes and reforms for many months to come.
Perhaps the greatest difficulty will come from retrograde Mars inconjunct the Sun and Moon. This uneasy alignment may create even more crises that require hard choices and adjustments in relationships to accommodate different needs, values and goals. The challenge will be to listen effectively (people and nations alike) to others so that projections are minimized and everyone’s needs are equally considered and met through collaboration instead of conflict. Compromise may have become a dirty word in our politics, but it is indeed the only way forward in our rapidly changing and evolving world.
Mars is really center-stage this month as it finishes up its current retrograde period (since March 1st) on May 19th. As it changes direction it will powerfully energize and kick-start stalled projects and initiatives. Make sure your intentions are right and proper for all involved as Mars is the planet of self-interest, force and desire that can devolve into war and conflict just as easily as it can muster the courage and drive to initiate positive changes and new goals.
May is a propitious time to meditate on peaceful resolutions to personal and global conflicts. Focus your energy and attention on what you want, NOT what you don’t want. And remember, the most valuable ability and the greatest power we possess as human beings is free will choice. Free will choices facilitate human evolution and drive the manifestation process. Make choices deliberately, consciously and intentionally! Co-create the change you wish to see in the world. BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD!
